Visit to LEGOLAND Malaysia, Johor Bahru

Do you like this story?

LEGOLAND Malaysia in Johor, Malaysia is the first Legoland theme park in Asia. LEGOLAND Malaysia is located in Gelang Patah, Nusajaya and opens its door on September 15, 2012.

LEGOLAND Malaysia is quite huge at 30.75 hectares (76 acres) versus other theme parks in Asia, i.e. Universal Studios Singapore at 20 hectares (49 acres), Hong Kong’s Disneyland at 22.4 hectares (55.35 acres), Ocean Park Hong Kong 17 hectares (42 acres). Of course, Tokyo’s Disneyland at 47 hectares (115 acres) dwarves all these theme parks.

In order to avoid the overwhelming crowd expected during the opening and the school holidays we visited LEGOLAND Malaysia on October 13 & 14, 2012 and spent a night at Tune Hotel Danga Bay in Johor.

Like many theme parks, LEGOLAND Malaysia is divided into seven sections namely "The Beginning", "Miniland", "LEGO City", "Land of Adventure", "Imagination", "LEGO Kingdoms" and "LEGO Technic".

As we have purchased our annual passes during the pre-opening sale, we managed to get the best value for money at MYR198 for adult and MYR153 for child. Currently, the annual passes are selling at MYR275 / SGD115 for adult and RM210 / SGD88 for child and senior citizen while the single ticket cost MYR140 for adult and MYR110 for child and senior citizen — the single tickets would only cost MYR105/MYR82.50 for adult/child and senior citizen through online purchase with at least 7 days in advance.

Overall, LEGOLAND Malaysia fares better than other theme parks in Malaysia due to its rides mainly because it is still new. Service-wise, it is just as horrible as an average F&B outlet in Malaysia. It remains as something to ponder whether it will become the next Genting Highlands in terms of the under maintenance of its rides in the next five or ten years.
